what aftermarket brands compete with OEM?

Long story short I had some work done at a shop and had a Beck and Arnley part which the mechanic said all aftermarket parts are junk (this was at a honda specialist shop) and Beck and Arnley is pretty high quality I heard. so he told me to return it and put in an oem part. My question is which parts are not that big of a deal to use aftermarket parts to replace?? I heard parts that you always go OEM on are timing belt, waterpump, thermostat etc. What else???

What other aftermarket brands are out there that are good quality for the teggy??

People usually go for aftermarket parts for performance. It's best to buy oem stuff for maintenance.

I always find OEM Honda stuff lasts way longer than any aftermarket part. Take Skunk2 ball joints for example.

I've always felt Moog had the best ball joints and stuff for a daily driver. That's what I'm having put on mine. They're twice the price of parts store brand. In that department, I want something strong.

Just wanted to know because I thought Beck and Arnely were pretty reputable and they are not just a regular crappy aftermarket brand.

BTW planning on doing my distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter and spark plugs and wires ( for the wires and plugs I know to go NGK 8)

Keep in mind that honda does not make sparkplugs, clutches, gakets etc. They buy these parts from aftermarket companies. Akebono, exedy, ngk, trw, valeo, skf, bosch, denso, alpine, pioneer, eaton...some of the more recognizable names you will see. I quit buying stuff at local parts stores pretty much, since most of it is refurbished chinese crap as far as i can tell. At least if i buy at rock auto i can find some of the oem supplier names.

rockauto raised their shipping prices enough that it can be a deal breaker.
plus i like the idea of buying from a smaller operation on ebay esp. if it's cheaper.
gotta love those free shipping deals.
