Transmission flush

I plan on doing a flush on my automatic 90 GS Teg. i have read that a power flush is not good for it and the way to flush it out is to drain, pour new, drive for a while, redrain it and drive again and redrain and pour new once more. is this true for Honda AT's? Also I have read to use ONLY Honda ATF fluid as well. It may be possible that even a flush might not take care of my issue (car wont shift into 3rd) but it was working fine till when someone who changed my alternator pulled the drive axle out leaking out the fluid and i replaced it with Casterol (import ATF approved for honda/toyota/whatever) and now i read from people that only Honda fluid can be used. is it possible that is why i have issues and is this a proper flush proceedure? Thanks in advance!
