help with decision re 1990 Integra LS

II'm new to the site and desperate for advice. I bought my '90 Integra off the showroom floor and have loved it for all this time, even though the a/c went out in 05, and the replaced condenser only kept me cool for one year. I can live w/o a/c. My car has 160,000 miles. Now the timing belt broke and the engine needs to be replaced. A transmission shop has told my husband that they have found a comparable engine with 130,000 miles which they will buy and install for $2600. They have suggested that they open up the new engine and put in a new timing belt before installing it in the car. That would cost $400. My husband thinks we should just donate the car to a VoTech and buy a hybrid. I love the car, but when is enough, enough? Is this $3000 too much? Is an engine with 130,000 miles on it too old? Am I crazy? Please give me your advice as car people who also seem to be down to earth. Keep in mind that my husband and I know NOTHING mechanically. Thanks a lot,
Pat
