pump sound coming from engine?

I have a 96 intergra. From time to time I heard a pump sound coming from the right side of my engine. It only for a few sec and then it is ok. Sometimes I hear it when I start the car. What is it that is making that noise and should I be concerned?

Try flipping the key to the ON position but don't start it and listen for a kind of buzzing sound. If that's the same thing that you're normally hearing, it's the fuel pump priming itself.

That's your ABS system pressuring up. Does it every time I start my car. You could check the fluid level in the ABS reservoir if you haven't yet.

Didn't think of that since mine doesn't have ABS, all I ever heard is the fuel pump :lol:

Oh ok.. so I don't need to worry about it then? My ABS is not working due to a bad controller per Acura. Cost me 1400 to get it replaced!!

Yanking the ABS fuses is free. Problem solved.
