Default K20A3 Boosted dyno

just got tuned yesterday. its a K20A3 Motor, Stock Internals. Garrett GT28RS turbo, HKS manifold. universal FMIC with 2.5" piping. and a HKS bov (loud) and running Kpro

its my friend michael's car. was pretty quick N/A but now he's join the darkside

here is the dyno...

yea...we were expecting much higher numbers. it was at 10psi. as you can see we were really disappointed in those numbers. might have to redo his setup a lil bit. 3" intercooler piping. 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust piping. try and get a map sensor so he can run over 10psi.

first couple runs on the dyno....the A3 motor made a crazy amount of torque. i think the first one was like 156whp 198tq! (untuned) couple runs later he hit 202whp 224tq...there was about 15 runs, tuner came out with 230whp 239tq. hopefully after redoing the piping & exhuast and maybe higher boost. we can make it into the 300whp range

here is the vid http://videos.streetfire.net/player....2-BA3E7A4C2985

sorry bout the music....i hate it too, i didnt edit some other guy tape it when he was there.

=\ waited 7 hours to see it hit 300whp+

i was planning to go boost...but it doesnt look that good. totall cost of his setup was around 6k. i'm right now look to him as a model. lol test out setups and parts. i'm pretty sure i'm not gonna get a the GT28RS,

although the GT28RS gives good amounts of torque.

maybe if he breaks into the mid to high 300whp it might resort some hope in my car

I'm surprised to see that high of a torque curve.

I thought you had to get at least 3" diameter exhaust piping. How much did he spend on this setup. Is he looking to upgrade anything except 3" exhaust.

I'd look into cams and cam gears. Still, not that great of numbers, but the torque is what got me.

Keep us posted.

^ yea his turbo kicks in quick aswell, he hits full boost around 3K. the bov is loud aswell. currently i think he's gonna upgrade the exhaust piping to 3". i told him to upgrade his Intercooler piping aswell. and for cams, there are Raz cams for the k20a3, but its not in production, if he wants FI cams, he has to get them custom machined to the Raz cam specs.

he spent bout 6K on his setup

gonna upgrade

K20A3 IM to K20A2 IM
K20A3 TB to K20A2 TB
3" Downpipe
3" Exhaust Piping
Greddy TT muffler

hopefully this will help the setup breathe and hit some better numbers. he's in the process of getting those parts together. i really hope he hits 300whp+ or else i'm getting rid of going boost idea.

if he hits 300whp+ i plan going go boost just with a bigger turbo. prolly a GT30

go with a FULL-RACE.COM turbo kit....you'll hit those numbers easily although it takes awhile to build boost due to the massive turbo. But really, 230WHP and 239TQ are good numbers on the street.....the DC5 chassis isn't as heavy as it seems and that'll make a lil monster on tha street

lol yea..i dunno why he went wit a custom kit. brandon(515whp rsx) talked him into the disco potatoe(GT28RS)

i'm waiting to see wat his numbers will be after the new setup. i'm pretty sure if i go boost, i will have to replace my IM & TB too. now i kno wat not to do.

i wouldn't run 3 inch intercooler piping. it will make turbo lag worse and make very little difference in power. 3 inch turboback exhaust is a must though. what is tuning with and what is his fuel system like? And how the hell is a gt28rs runnning 10psi. garrett sells them with the internal wastegate set at 11 psi from the factory

I know this thread is old, but I'd thought I'd help.
This approach really isn't necessary. from your video it sounds like the volute is a bit tight on the exhaust end. Are you using the .64A/R, or the .86A/R for the Gt28RS? To my ears it sounds a bit like the .64A/R, but there is a bit of background noise from the music. with the CFM of that turbocharger, you can up the boost without destroying the engine, as long as it is tuned more. 3" piping is not needed at all, nor is the 3" DP. Your exhaust on the other hand, could use a bit of help, so this is where the Greddy TT could be of some serious help.

Also noticed that you had a turbo XS boost controller. There are some EBCs than can help with response, even with a larger turbocharger, but if you're looking for keeping the "fun" factor with this car, than the GT28RS is just fine.
