Hi All -
I'm trying to get my friends 89 Integra running again after the distributor melted. A mechanic told me that a leak in the valve cover gasket caused the distributor to eventually die.
I checked out ebay and bought a $150 aftermarket distributor. I've got it on, but the car still wont run on its own. I can hear it fire if I give it lots of gas while cranking, but its almost as if the ignition coil in this new distributor is too weak. I actually returned the first distributor to the ebay seller and got him to send me a new one, but the problem persists.
Heres what I've done:
- dry compression test: all cylinders ~100 psi with my crappy Harbor Freight gauge
- replaced plugs
- replaced plug wires
- replaced leak valve cover gasket
Any ideas? Has anyone had success with an aftermarket distributor? Before I fork over $300 for an OEM one I want to make sure I'm not missing something important.
Thanks
