cali smog test

i have to ask this, being that from what i hear a car over 25 years old doesnt have to get smog checked??
(is there any truth to this)

if there is, could i swap in an obd2a or B and be good since there isnt any smog checks because the car is so old?

You have to smog your car, you can bar your car for a new motor.

thats what i was thinking i was born and grew up in the Bay and moved out and was wondering how the smog stuff went if the motor was newer then the car or vise versa since they are really strict about their pollution

You can swap in a newer motor, but some people will want the bar tag on the car
