Need advice rebuilding a b18a1

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum although I have searched a few things on here before.

I have 1991 Integra. Stock b18a1. 154,xxx original miles! 5 speed.

Long story short. Bought this car. Very mint and didn't care that the car did need engine work. Previous owner was honest and said head was rebuilt hoping it would fix the smoking but was told cylinder 1 piston rings were shot.

Anyway, car will smoke on idle and will continue to do so while driving (I'm pretty sure). I did a compression test, results were cylinder 1 60, cylinders 2 and 3 90 and cylinder 4 120. Yes, I know, terrible haha. Car runs, but will run like crap till like 3k rpms and then run normal, by then I have already shifted. Most of the time, runs like crap. Spark plug on cylinder 1 looks super foul (black) and even has no electrode? The little pointy part, whatever it is called. I can take pics if necessary.

I spoke to a friend of mine, he says it sounds like piston rings. My question is, which brand? Also for crankshaft and rod bearings. Good idea to changed these correct? This car will not be beat, it isn't to race, however, I MAY swap in a VTEC head in the near future. But more than likely I will be swapping a b20vtec much later. The head was rebuilt completely as in 3 angle valve job, new valve stems and all that jazz.

Any advice or suggestions is appreciated. Sorry for the long thread. Just trying to give everyone all info that may be needed.

I wonder what the cylinder walls look like. Those PSI numbers are horrible for that motor. I would not worry about tearing into the crank until you know how the block looks. You can find a used motor that will drop right in and will be a dependable driver instead of dropping the coin to rebuild that one.

Thing is to find an unmolested, beat to hell block over here is so hard man. That's why I was thinking of the rebuild. We are taking it apart in the next couple days. I just wanted some feedback on which rings and whatnot? I have read on King bearings and NPR rings. I have read both good and bad. More good. Anyone know? Also I have some minty b16 pr3 pistons I am dropping in. Good idea as to raise compression?

Here, this is what you need.

You also want to replace your main + rod bearings with the same colors that are in the engine now.

And get a bottom end and top end gasket kit.

Google rules. Anything else?
This guys got it covered pretty well. Do a cyl leak down test to pinpoint what is exactly wrong on each cyl especially cyl 1. Most likely since he says the head was rebuilt its your rings carbon build up and wear.. Have you checked coolant level. Improper installation of the head gasket or a slightly warped head can cause a loss of compression that is uneven.

And yes since you are pulling the rods out you might as well replace the bearing. I prefer oem because of fitment and as long as you pick the right bearings you'll never go wrong.

OP. Best thing to do if you have the cash is to take it to a reputable machine shop and have them look at the block. As for piston rings id use hastings, rod bearings id go with acl. Check out some peoples rebuild threads. Also lsvtec is kinda a pain to build and maintain in my opinion.

I use google for everything haha. I just needed feedback with some company names although I believe OEM is the way to go. The car smokes while idling, even while driving. But what I do find weird is that the car runs sluggish and then runs fine but then will run sluggish again. Seems weird to me. Wouldn't it run like crap all the time? Thanks for the input guys.
