Broken Shift Linkage

Hey guys,

It's my first post, and yes I have researched, and gotten tired of trying to find it haha.

I've got a 91 RS with an auto tranny. I went to drive it the other day after trying to save it (it had sat for a year), it went into all gears and back to park. I took it for a spin and made it maybe 2 houses down, and I stopped to grab something from the house, that's when I noticed it wouldn't go in reverse. So I went to just put it in park and it was still in drive. Since park is all mechanical, I knew it was the linkage.

I looked under and found that a mounting bracket is broken. It's the one right next to the cat on the underbody.

My question is, is this a common problem? And is it better to pull the linkage from the tranny or from the bottom of the shifter? The shifter looks like an effing jungle to take off haha.

Thanks guys!
