OBD2B-OBD1 fitment?

So I replaced my ECU from OBD2B to the P72 OBD1 on my 2001 GSR. Its together and running ok but I could not fit the metal plate back on that was covering the original ECU and wiring. It all fits under the kick panel fine but was wondering if this is normal or if I should do any thing to make sure the wires are not rubbing on any thing? Worried that over time this could cause a wire to get damaged. Was thinking of using velcro to stick part of the wire harness to the ECU to give it a place to be secured. Thoughts on this? Also for some weird reason my car had a square ECU which I thought was JDM. This normal on these cars to have either ECU from the factory. Is the JDM ECU still OBD2B? I was doing this so I could modify my exhaust with out having to worry about the cat. Another question I have is can I still pull codes from the ECU now if I have a problem with a code reader or by using the check engine light and a jumper?
