Rack and pinion compatibility

My rack on my 2000 integra ls blew and I bought a rack off a friend who had one laying around from a 96 ls. For some reason I cannot get it all the way in the interior to connect it. The stalk barely pokes through the hole in the firewall it appears like it's not long enough. Are all rack and pinions from 94-01 the same? Very frustrated with this situation. Don't feel as if anything else is in the way

After a little digging, I came up with two different part numbers. They look identical in the pics though.
