I have a 98 with a b20b swap..bought the car this way so I'm not sure what alternator was used in the swap. Is there a way to find out? Also are b series alts interchangeable? I'm looking for something high output and need to know what to buy. Thanks. (also read that oddesy alts run higher output, could that work?)

Just pick up a b20 alt. I believe they're the same. Look at the part numbers for a b18 and b20. The price will be the same either way tho.

Also what's the reason for a higher output alternator?

I have issues with voltage drop with my stereo. I'd like an alternator that has higher amps but not sure what's compatible with my car.. Can't afford a big aftermarket one.

You just need to make sure it has the right plug. OBD1 and OBD2 have different sockets on the alt. You will also need to use a different size belt. Just use an OEM b20 one, but buy a capacitor for your set up.
