burning lots of oil

My 1991 Integra has been burning oil for years so I finally switched to the Penzoil High Mileage stuff and it doesn't seem to help, plus it's super expensive. The car has 270,000 miles on it and still gets an average of 28-35 mpg, but it literally takes about a quart of oil every fill-up. Any suggestions?

you said its burning oil, so i assume its not leaking any.

Do a compression and leak down test, this will show you the overall health of the motor. A leakdown test will show where you are leaking oil into the combustion chamber, my bet is either valve stem seals or rings, but a compression test will help determine which one.

Oil consumption is either coming from the rings or the valve guides like Samurai said. Prolongued oil consumption will eventually melt exhaust valves so expect things to go down hill fast. Start looking for a new engine as its not cost effective to fix it.

Yes your engine is beyond saving with that high mileage oil. Just monitor the oil level, which im sure you already do.
