car not starting

so we just replaced the head gasket to my buddies DA and before the head gasket had blown so we went and bout a new head because it was rebuilt and put everything back on right new spark plugs an wires. but now his car wont start still, it acts like it wants to but it wont, also he doesnt know what the little black box is next to his oil filter
PLEASE help asap

Do a leak down test and see if the motor is holding compression.

The little black box is the oil breather tank. Basically, it relieves the pressure build up in the block caused by blow-by.

Make sure you plugged the spark plug wires properly into the distributor.

Check if its getting spark, air, and fuel.

Not saying this is the problem but if water leaked into the head wile the cover was off, that could keep it from starting. Thats what happend to mine.

are the valves adjusted correctly on the new head if not it could cause it to not start
