Common ac compressor issue?

So I noticed about a month ago that when the ac was on it would put a huge strain on the motor. Everyone told me it was a common issue because of my small single cam motor. It wasn't hot so I didn't really care. Now it's hot as hell and when I go to use it, it will engage for like a quarter second and disengage right after. And then repeat. No belt squealing or anything. There is freon in the lines. And no cold ac. Its putting the same out with fan on or ac on..... Before I order a new compressor, is there anything else it could be causing it to doing that?

Yea if it has too much freon it will cause the compressor to cycle a lot. You need to get some gages and check the pressure, not just pop more cans of freon into it.

Turns out the compressor locked up (probably due to too much freon) but I went to a u pull it yard and got one off a junker that had freon still in the lines. Hopefully that should do it
