Fan runs sporadically

1991 Integra... the fan on the drivers side runs all times of the day and night and ends up killing my battery. Example: The other day i drove the car for a few hours, parked it and all was fine. i went outside around 10pm that night and heard my fan running. this was 4 hours after i parked it and it was around 40 degrees farenheit outside.after standing there for bout 10 minutes, curiously watchin, the fan shut off and then came on again. it began to turn on and then off about 20 times or so. finally i pulled the ground off the battery,so my battery wouldnt die. some days and nights the fan doesnt run at all. can i just unplug that fan? my AC doesnt work and its my understanding that this fan is part of the AC circuit.

really all you need is the fan closest to the battery. i wired a switch to my fan and just removed the driver side fan which is the ac fan.
