Interior panel removal 90 GS

Did any of you ever take the rear panel/hatch panel off? I can get it to be somewhat loose, removed the speaker covers, unbolted the seatbelt and took out the screw behind the little cover next to the back seat area, but something is holding it pretty tight. I don' t want to just tear the thing off. My goal is to repair a wheel well water leak that only happens when driving in the rain.

Those panels are weird. They seem to be held in by those latches that hold the rear seats upright. I tried to get at them but I can't figure it out either.
