Key stuck in ignition

When it gets colder the key won't fully turn off and I can't pull the key out. If I push on the key, I hear a click of a solenoid or something, IN THE COLUMN. Eventually, I can get the key out. I have already cleaned the switch on the shifter. This appears to be some other problem.

theirs a little solenoid that locks the key in when the car is in drive. Take off the covers and the lock and see if anything is shorting out. Are you sure the car isn't in drive while you're trying to take it out?

So there is a solenoid in there? I thought so. If I take the covers off right behind the steering wheel I can clean up the grease, etc...? Free it up?

Maybe use grease made for lock mechanism for homes. Some hardware store should sell them. I think their call lock tumbler lubricant or something.
