Let's play: What is missing?

So I am finishing my car after a rebuild (taking quite a long time). The last issue I have found is the car leaks oil after running for a minute or longer. I located the leak to come from where the crank is. The only thing that made sense was to replace the crank seal. I got a new one and some tools to get the current one out. I got the crank pulley off and went to start to get the seal off, but then found this. This is how the current seal is.

First one to guess what's wrong with this picture, wins 10 imaginary points:

ignore the gunk on there, that isn't what's wrong with it.

Let the games begin!!

Don't be silly, that's still there.
zing!!

ok well this game is no longer fun. I went to replace the crank seal as it was leaking. I find out that it was completely missing. No wonder it was leaking...

hahaha I'm a bit of an idiot. Probably one of those "I'll worry about it later" things that get forgotten about. Oh well, doesn't appear that any damage was done. Just wasted a few bucks on oil but I'm not sweating it. I use shitty oil while doing work for reasons like this anyway. Once it's all back to 100%, I'll go back to synthetic.
