Finally, I can say it's fixed. The original thermostat I bought was a cheap defective piece of cock. Don't buy Stant thermostats.
The Beck Arnley thermostat I bought was much higher quality. It weighed several ounces more, the rim was thicker, the design was higher quality, and it was made in Israel.
