alright so i have a 90 integra sedan ls, tonight when i went out i noticed that my lights(dash, headlights, clock) started getting dim and continued to get more and more dim. i pulled over and my car started bogging down and choking and would backfire then it just died. when i put my key in it would beep so i knew i had some power and when i would go to start it, it would turn once but not start. so i sat there for a few min then it started right up. i drove bout 20 seconds down the road and it did it again so my friend jumped me and it only lasted twenty seconds again. i also noticed my battery light to be on but its a brand new battery and i dont see how i can just sit there and it gain power without the altinator charging the battery or jumping it.

The alternator is bad. It is not charging the battery while the car is running, hence the dimming lights.

A brand new battery will not act like an old battery. It will run out of juice and will not be able to power your car, but once it has sat for a little while, it will have enough power to turn the car on for a little while.

If you use jumper cables, the car should run as long as the cables are connected, but should die immediately or soon after the cables are removed.

You have to take out the axle unless you want to remove other things on top. or you can just lift the engine out of the bay a little but you need to unhook mounts. Its REAL easy to just take out drive axle. lower ball joint, axle nut, out tie rod, and then just pull it aside then pull out the axle. If you're axle is old you may question replacing it too. Easy as that.

if you want to test if its your alternator you could always let your friend give you a jump when he pulls the cable off take off one of the wires to your batter, the car should die right away. I changed the alternator on my da without taking any of that stuff out, theres a hole down there thats JUST big enough to fit the alternator through haha
