Racing Harnesses on stock seats

I saw a car today where the guy just had the harnesses going over top of the seat and below the headrest. Would this work? Is it pointless? Is there a safe way to mount the harnesses if you still have a back seat in your car?

It's not safe. Race bucket/race harness/roll cage or bar are meant to be used in unison. If you have a harness and/or bucket without a cage it's actually less safe than the OEM 3-point; it doesn't allow the body to fold and can cause a broken neck, back, or fractured skull. I'd say stay away from a harness-only setup unless you're caging the car and going to the track. It's not worth the safety risk just for the looks IMO. Just my $0.02

And also, when you have a harness the portion that goes over your shoulder needs to be bolted high, such as on a b-pillar bar. You do not want to mount it on the rear sear bolts, as in any crash, your body will be pulled downward and your spine will be compressed.
