there is actually 5 different types of VTEC. not three. and I VTEC is the only one that advances and retardes the timing. and DOHC doesnt mean both cams are VTEC.

v-tec is a great thing for highway pulls we allready have the advan tage with a high rev so why not have a tough little four cylinder that can pull on a bigger litter four cylinder. its a whole new game with DOHC VTEC.

VTEC is the magic that lives in the wonderful things made by honda. it is created from all of the best things in the world. how do you make it well first you need alot of stuff. you need rainbows, happy face stickers, pretty smelling flowers, leprichauns and their pots of gold, then you need a pony, that dust that is left behind after you eat a bag of sour patch kids, stuffed animals, snow globe, the easter bunny, that white gove michael jackson uses to touch little boys, chapstick, warm towels, a bulldozer, lava lamp, freshly cut grass, pencil sharpener, an x box, assorted pastas, puppy dogs and kitty cats, fabric softener, a coffe table, wing nuts, fuzzy sweater, jinglebells, my space, all 150 pokemons or however many there are now (damn inbreeding) jellybeans, fire flys, sunrise, christmas lights, floofy clouds that look like bunnies, choo choo trains, gift baskets, all you can eat buffets, superbowl XXII, freslhy baked cookies, and plenty of hugs and kisses. then you have to put all of these together in a blender. a large 300 ft tall blender and proceede to mix for about 48 hours to make sure that you get all of the chunks out. one the mixing is complete and the mixture is a total liquid you put it into the funnel on top of the honda factory or production plant nearest you and por all the VTEC juice into the building then it will be collected and processed by the magical elfs and faries that live there. they will poor it into each engine that is to have the VTEC and seal it inside withtheir magical powers and then with a burst of light the VTEC is born. woot.
damn thos japs are some smart sons of bitches

okay so ive herd some different things about the vtec engagement point, I know its typicaly 5500 for most cars (5 for the s2k and 6 for the teggys) but ive herd that it "technically" engages at 4500 and the sound you hear at 5500 is the throttle bodies opening. I always thought the throttle bodies and the cams opened and changed simultaniously.

B18C1-big cam engages at 4400rpm. Secondary butterfly valves in the dual-stage IM open up at 5800? something rpm I don't remember exactly.
