smoke and oil in tail pipe

i left my car running and went in to a store for a sec when i came back i noticed smoke lightly coming out of my tail pipe as i looked into it there was oil in my tail pipe?
this isnt good can someone hypothosize the probleem?

yea are you sure it was oil? cause sometimes the cat will let out a black liquid. What color smoke was it? White, bluish, gray smoke?
