Car gets pretty hot when stopped

Pay a mechanic to do it if you don't know how or if sounds confusing. Better to have it done right and know its fixed then do it yourself and make it worse

It's really not that funny, I don't know why that would "crack you up."

Like Jake said- top off your radiator fluid, get a new fan from the junkyard.. call it a day.

The fans job is to move air through the radiator when the car is at a stand still. That is the cause of your overheating issue, not the thermostat. If the thermostat was at fault, it wouldnt matter what you were doing, the car would over heat.

While that sounds like it would be the case it's not true, your coolant won't circulate through but it will still get a cool charge of air from you radiator while your moving, in fact this sounds exactly like a thermostat stuck shut.

Although in his case, since he stated he disconnected the fan, that's clearly the problem.

Heres what you do:
Unbolt the two bolts.
Pull your fan up.
Remove the plugs to the fan.
Install new fan
Set it back in place.
Bolt back up and plug back in
Top off coolant.
Release air pockets (beings you ran low on coolant so long you may have a few)
Presto.

Just hope your Thermostat isn't stuck. If the car is running hot it will make the thermostat go bad over time.

If anymore concerns: There is a thing called the search bar, or simply just buy a manual lol.
