No heat?

If the gauge doesnt move at all, the temperature sensor is unplugged, or not working.

So just to make sure, its the small cylinder thing on the firewall to the left of center? How exactly do I check if its "opened or closed?"

The thermostat? No. It's not on the firewall, it's on the engine. Follow the lower radiator hose to the engine block.

The thermostat will open when it gets hot, take it out and put it in a pot full of water on the stove. When it heats up you should see it move.
