97 Teg auto tranny slips on forced downshift

When I want to merge or pass at most any speed, auto tranny slips in D4 but is fine if I shift to D3. Is this an adjustment or something else? All other times, tranny shifts fine. Thanks for any advice.

Does it kinda just rev up and the catch the gear? If so, its normal. These transmissions are really rough shifting. You may want to check the trans fluid and if its black or dirty in any way, drain and refill it with 3 quarts of honda atf or royal purple atf. I personally run royal purple and I feel that it makes the trans shift a little smoother.

Thanks. I'll try the fluid change and see what happens.

These Honda transmissions are the worst. It's most likely worn clutch packs, but it could also be a bad torque converter.

I think the fluid level was low. It's doing better now.

Also, it doesn't seem to like 87 octane E-10 so I'm trying mid grade. A bit more power and smoother shifts.

I mixed hafl a tank of E-0 and the car loved it, but it's not available in my area.
