How can I tell if my car came with an alarm pad

If you look under your driver seat, there should be the brain for a factor alarm if you have one. If you have an aftermarket alarm, the brain would probably be under the dash on the driver side.

i see a black box off to the right

With a green/blue button? If so, that's the maintenance required light reset button.
