strange sound at 3500 rpm

95' Teg LS 131k mi.
when i start my car after a long perioud of time, it revs high around 2k. if i rev it up to 3500 it starts making this strange almost metal scraping sound. friend says it could be valves that aren't lubed. anyone had this problem too?

Auto or Manual? I know for sure that it is not the valves scraping. When was the last time you changed your oil? Did you see metal in the oil? I had this sound on my car once. I found out that a heatshield was not tight and was vibrating at a certain RPM. I would check all the heatshilds and if that doesnt heolp then it may be something more serious

sounds crazy but have someone listen under the car while you gas it. it could be your heat shielding over the cat.
