1993 Acura Integra GS-R
Hey fellas I have a 1993 GS-R sitting in my garage with the B17A1 that I plan on rebuilding this winter. I believe the bottom end is alright, it's just the top end valve stem seals and the head gasket that needs replacing. Head gasket is obviously leaking oil and maybe some coolant. Reason I say valve stem seals is it burns oil over 5500 rpm, when vtec is activated. No consumption that I'm aware of when I baby it - which isn't that often, lol.
My number one concern is the fact that I have no idea what was done to the engine by the previous owner(s). I bought it last summer and simply got in it and drove. The engine sings, I know for sure there is nothing that needs critical attention. So far I've driven 15,000 km and have had no issues besides for the burning oil.
The engine has 268,000 km. I've had a few people in my car that know Honda motors quite well and they say this car makes more power than a stock B17A1. It's straight piped and has a Skunk2 intake. That's all I can see from the surface. The other hint that some changes were made from original is the Skunk2 camshaft seal on the front shaft (exhaust cam?) to the left of the head. -- I'll take a picture if that isn't specific enough.
I'm trying to avoid any surprises before I open the engine up. It'll be my first time opening an engine up. I'm an Instrument Technician by trade so needless to say I'm very confident with my mechanical abilities.
Any chance that this motor could have seals or gaskets that are a different spec from OEM? For example: I want to purchase a full rebuilt kit, since eventually I plan on replacing the piston rings, just not yet. I want to be sure that I can use every seal and gasket from that kit, as they're needed.
I'm fully aware it's not a simple job, hence why I'm starting it early so I have time to think about it before summer hits. I want to be able to take my time with every part of the process, clean everything up the best I can, inspect things, etc etc.
