    Some questions about warm/hot start/idle

Evening folks, 248k bone stock, 5 spd 94. Just recently my teg started observing some strange behaviors. 1 - warm/hot starts and idle conditions, it will die after getting above 125 degrees, or up to temp. Never done this, it tries to run but dies. Run it a couple blocks and its fine. (air idle...

Is it usual for cam caps to eventually come loose?

Afternoon, I have a question which puzzles me at the moment. I have a 94 LS, 18b, 5 spd with 240K on the clock. Changed the valve cover gasket and plug well seals, which I had no idea why the seals were needed until I got the cover off. Anyways after that it got its oil dumped etc and one of...

    Regasket/seal lower end?

All, My 94 Ls b18b1, 246k on the clock needs front and rear main seals. Can they be replaced without pulling the engine out? The compression is fine, and the top end has no leaks yet. Tho it sits for months at a time and does leak oil out of the mains. Um asking as I only see it 2-3 times a...

    Quick oil pan question

Thank you kindly. Waiting to hear back from my brother before I order a pan. I might get to build this thing sooner than planned......

    Quick oil pan question

This is a simple question, which Im sure I know the answer to but not entirely sure. Are all b18 oil pans the same? Apparently over the winter my 94 LS made a mess in my brothers garage and I just found out. Hes going to check the level and put it on ramps tonight to see if its the plug or not...

have you checked the cap/rotor, and another set of wires? if you get power all the way to the distributor, check the cap/rotor to see if they are corroded to hell and gone. Also check the wires to see if the plug ends have come loose/broken. Do you have another coil to test with?

    experienced mechanic needed

Check electricals. On my 72 Riviera I had a fusible link that went tits up. Would start fine cold, no dead spot but if you turned the key off, you had to wait for things to cool off before it would start. Id agree with Samurai on trying a distributor swap and see what happens. Get a can of...

    p75 vs p8r cylinder heads

I just thought of this, am I going to need a new intake manifold/header when I do this swap, or can I use the ones on my car? I dont know if they are dimensionally the same in terms of bolt hole alignment.

    p75 vs p8r cylinder heads

Yeah theres a couple places I know of that are off the beaten path and hard to get to that I used get hard to find 425 nail head parts at, as well as bone yards with predominantly 1980 and under with a back area of newer stuff. I know of at least 10-12 cars I can pick a head off of when I go...

    p75 vs p8r cylinder heads

Thanks for the link muckman, that about sums up what I wanted/needed to know. Ill be looking for a b16 head to use as those are abundant in the bone yards around where my dads at in Washington. Thanks.

    p75 vs p8r cylinder heads

Thats fine, I knew it would lower the compression. I used to run 2.5 heads on my 2.2 impreza with high comp slugs in it. I have some time but the p8r head I can get for a steal from a friend who decided not to build it and is cutting his losses.

is your rear main seal soaked? I dont know if you can look at it on a honda, but if it as an inspection cover by the flywheel bottom, take it off and look at it. I had a rear main seal that would leak periodically due to temp variations. It would get on the flywheel, and then get shot all over...

    p75 vs p8r cylinder heads

Afternoon folks, I am curious as to what to use for a cylinder head for a motor that I picked up to use as builder replacement for the one in my car. Its another b18b1, but for heads, I have seen factory p75's ported/polished out made to flow ok, theres always the lsvtec build, but this weekend...

    differences in trans

Im looking at doing tranny work when I drive my car to my dads house this summer. Last summer I did an air intake, header, and full exhaust. Im looking at a lower geared trans so that when on drives with my dad and brother Im not left in the dust especially going over mountain passes. Im looking...

    Blue Smoke

Does it do it worse than it did before your switch to synt/conv mix? The reason I ask is that some motors that are with in spec for runout or ring gap will sometimes leak wth lighter more slippery oils. Used to see it with all of our old Fords/GMs. My 72 Riviera was the only thing that would...

    Murphy's 99 Coupe

Cool thread nice job so far. Id agree, its old and need some tlc. . Everytime my family picks up a car (1950-1971) its, belts, hoses, shoes/rotors, calipers, wheel cylinders, springs, fuel pump, ps pump, water pump, timing chain and gear kit, rebuild the carb, cap, rotor, wires, plugs, coil...

    poor fuel economy

Did you do the valve adjustment hot or cold? If you tighten them down to far they will float, and not seal properly. I learned this with my 66 Plymouth Fury III with an ambulance 318 poly head with mechanical valves.
