1991 bolt ons.....

Hi all,
New here. Bought a '91 GS last week. It is in absolutely great condition and I bought it from the original owner who bought it for his wife when they were in their mid 30's...so car has not been beaten. It has 100k miles and is COMPLETELY stock. It was bought as a commuter vehicle, however, as I've always had v8s, I'm always happy to get more power :twisted:. What are some tried and true bolt ons that will boost power a little....headers, exhaust and air intake? are there others available for this engine?
Thanks,
James

lol, guess that's because you drive V8's mostly. You can start with your basic intake/header/exhaust combo. Megan makes headers for about $150, just get different gaskets because the ones they give you are crap. Or you can do with DC Sport but they are a lot more expensive. As far as intakes go, there are tons to choose from. AEM and K&N are popular choices. Now exhaust. If you like loud, a lot of people like the Skunk2 Megapower. But if you like quieter but still noticeable when you get on it, Apexi WS2 is a nice exhaust.

But like I said, there are tons of options. Just do your research and make sure your buying something you're going to be happy with

Of course the usual suspects Intake, Header, Exhaust... Also, depending on your budget you could pick up a Skunk2 Intake Manifold and some Crower stage 1 cams. that should give a nice little bump in performance!

also for the intake make sure it is a cold air intake not a short ram intake

Just remember, if you get cams and intake manifold, you wanna tune it. Or you'll mess with your a/f ratios and that can be bad.

yep, lol headerS....gotta get used to singular exhaust and plural cams:lol. Anyone know of a reputable Honda specialist in or near Tampa, Fl. ?

@teggy,
Well, I believe in finding people that are tried and true. Way past the point of wanting to experiment. Would like to meet someone with proven skill and reputation. Of the top of my head, I think it would be adequate for my needs to get about 200 hp in this car. Hopefully it won't break the bank to squeeze 70-80 more horses out....

Out of an LS.... Yes... Unless you rebuild and go turbo. :)

Yeah, the N/A route would cost a fortune. BUT, assuming you've got a healthy motor, you should be able to run 200whp through and all-stock motor without any trouble with a turbo set up

If power and money is of importance to you... I think you went the wrong route with getting this car. The easiest way for you to get that sort of power is by changing out the motor itself to a B18C (Type-R) or even a K20. If not then you will probably have to rebuild your motor and slap on a turbo.

I don't understand why everyone says rebuild the motor? It can be done bone stock with a good tune and healthy motor. You might want to do some basic maintenance like gaskets, rings, ect but there's no need for aftermarket internals. Don't believe me, check this out

Uh why? At least give some sort of reasoning to your statement. I actually think cold air intakes are worse, mainly because you run the risk of hydro locking.

Anyway, welcome to the club :) Turbo or a swap would be the way to go IMO if you want some serious power
