Clogged catalytic converter? lol I would say its a clogged cat because this same thing happened to my EG. Stopped after I changed my catalytic converter
to me it sounds like the throttle position sensor. I broke a tooth on mine and didnt know it so when I drove I got up to about 2500 rpm and experienced power loss. I would troubleshoot this before replacing the fuel filter.
