Im about to do a valve lash adjustment and wanted peoples opinions on whether I should lean to the tighter side of spec or the looser side of spec...

you do it by feel, with the feeler gauge in, slowly bull the feeler gauge out and you should feel a slight drag.

I know that lol but spec for my LS is (according to my service manual)

IN .003-.005
EX .006-.008

my question is should I go .003(IN)-.006(EX) or should I go .005(IN)-.008(EX)

i think i run bigger on my motor because i dont have a smaller feeler gauge. but i would go with the middle for both of yours. .004 and .007

I target the tigher spec because this clearance directly corresponds to actual valve lift. To gain an extra thousanths or two of free valve lift is a win. Adverse affects of going too tight would be increased cam/rocker wear and possible negative lash clearance once things heat up. However those would never be a risk with stock clearances.

Doesn't valve lash shift the power and some?

No. Cam profile is responsible for that. This is just lift. Cam lobe pushes rocker which pushes valve.

Damn you guys got on this one quick!

I just did mine maybe 3 weekends ago.

I did .003" intake
.006"exhaust. I can tell the idle is differnent. Breathes more, you can feel it.
